Laying the foundation for an open and interoperable data ecosystem
In the context of the digital transformation of the cultural sector, Synapse C contributed to the realization of a feasibility study led by CAPACOA (Canadian Arts Presenting Association) aimed at mapping and connecting the main information systems used in the performing arts field. This mandate is part of the Artsdata project, supported by the Government of Canada, which aims to promote the discoverability of shows and improve the efficiency of digital tools across the country.
A rigorous approach to analysis and modelling
Synapse C has thoroughly analyzed four major platforms – Scène Pro, Scènes francophones, I Want to Showcase and Arts Touring Connector – to document their data structure, information flows, and interoperability potential. This approach included:
- conceptual database modeling;
- ontological or semantic analysis of key entities (shows, artists, venues, etc.) ;
- the assessment of the possibilities of data circulation between platforms;
- Identification of technical, legal or organizational gaps and barriers.
Concrete recommendations for future implementation
The study made it possible to formulate targeted recommendations to harmonize data models, improve data extraction and transformation processes, and promote its publication in open and standardized formats. A pilot project has also been initiated with the Scènes francophones platform, in order to concretely test the integration of data into Artsdata via an ETL (extract, transform, load) process.
A structuring project for the performing arts sector
Thanks to this feasibility study, CAPACOA and its partners now have a concrete roadmap to improve the efficiency of their systems, support the discoverability of the performing arts, and provide artists and audiences with more equitable and fluid access to information.
This mandate illustrates Synapse C’s ability to mobilize its expertise in data structuring, pooling and interconnection with a view to innovation and collaboration on a national scale.
